Panoramic Ascent
A conventional spiral staircase serves as a vertical circulation element, facilitating movement between levels while affording glimpses of the spaces below during ascent. This project reimagines the spiral staircase, prioritizing simultaneous viewing and expanding the user experience through augmented spatial dimensions. As the staircase ascends, it dynamically widens at each turn, increasing its footprint and transforming the individual treads into broader platforms. This expansion transcends the traditional language of vertical access, evolving the staircase into a series of interconnected spaces. This spatial transformation encourages visitors to engage with panoramic vistas and distant horizons, blurring the distinction between circulation and observation. The staircase culminates in a generous viewing deck or platform, further emphasizing this transition. This design intentionally explores the threshold between circulation and inhabitable space, questioning the point at which the staircase transcends its functional role to become a distinct architectural volume. The project challenges conventional notions of form by exaggerating the widening component, prompting a re-evaluation of the staircase's spatial identity.
